This season's DanceNSW includes insights into pitching at the Australian
Performing Arts Market (APAM) from someone who knows (Shaun
Parker), and explores the inspiration behind Dean Walsh's
first large scale group work Back From
Front, premiering at Carriageworks.
Shirley McKechnie, Professorial Fellow at the Victorian College of the Arts, shares some of the key findings of the Quantum Leap experience: research undertaken with dance artists and scholars to explore the nature of thinking in the making of dance works. Paco Peña Flamenco Dance Company returns to Australia in May, and we bring you the English translation of an interview with "bailaora" Charo Espino on the eve of the tour. Our Dance Space Residency program is well underway, and we talk to Anton, one of the successful applicants, about his plans to use this opportunity to explore new ideas. Updates from Ausdance NSW include the outcomes from the Ausdance National Dance Manifesto, Dance 2012 Forum held earlier this month, as well as details of a Regional and Indigenous Dance Strategy submitted to Arts NSW. Critical Path looks towards the future, planning programs for artists in 2009, and Margie Medlin, Director, gives us some idea as to what to expect. We also bring an update from Campbelltown Arts Centre of performances coming up in Western Sydney between now and June, as well as a listing of ‘what's on' around town. Last, but by no means least, Isadora Shortflexor brings us her special take on the dance sector in Sydney. Don't forget to let us know if you have stories or news you'd like to share with Ausdance NSW members.
