A Girl’s Journey Between Two Cultures – Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Mathinna
Some time ago, Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director, Stephen Page, travelled to Tasmania where he met with locals in the Arts and with Elders of Aboriginal communities. The idea of telling a Tasmanian story began to gain momentum, and when Stephen saw Thomas Bock’s portrait of Mathinna, he says “I knew it was Mathinna’s story that I had to tell.”

The Dancer’s Brain
Meagan Simpson is currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University.  She is also a dancer and choreographer and here discusses new findings in neuroscience – mirror neurons.   Studies have been conducted recently which explore the use of mirror neurons in dancers, which can ultimately affect how they learn choreography and pick up dance routines.

Isadora Shortflexor is a writer, cabaret performer and performance maker. She started dancing with a very tight bun at the age of 4 and continues to hit the floor more generally with a fringe in her eyes. She spent her early twenties  as a showgirl on the P&O pulling into ports and bars all around the world, and taking workshops with the luminaries of modern dance.
